24 août Building my new lens kitAhhh... after sitting on my D50, kit lens, and 75-300mm lens (which btw is a great lowcost zoom) I am building my kit. I want three 3-4 solid, no hold bar lenses. So on my petty D50 (which by the way is the best no holds bars body for the beginning) I am going to pack on some professional glass. 10-20mm Sigma DX for wide angles, 17-55mm DX lens for great midrange, and 70-200mm VR... aka the black beast for zoom coupled with a 1.7x teleconverter for 1.7 times the reach length on attachment. My site will be up first with 10-20mm shots. The other two will arrive around the middle of the month. 14 août Photos and TripodsMy D50 has been a great treat to take pictures with. My favorite subjects to photo are around primarily in the night which of course requires a tripod. I have had to go through a good many units to finally come up with my current investmnet. Velborn Charmgne 560 Tripod. Good little tripod made out of carbon fiber. Anyway - enough of my jibber jabbing. 10 juillet Photography with the D50The D50 is nothing short of spectacular. As many of the photos in my album will attest to - my picture taking capability has risen drastically. The stronger and larger CCD is making interesting pictures possible. I'm pretty much a night photography slut. Anything from dusk on makes me very happy. While low-light is pretty, taking pictures with the D50 has been pretty much a breeze right off the bat. I need to get a better understand of shutter speed and so forth to really capture more crisp photos, however, all in all not a bad start :)
5 juillet Decision Made - D50 is the Winner!Well I made the dive - D50 Nikon camera. Great little unit. The lens kit is half way functional, however, like any kit lens it leaves a LOT to be desired. The unit is balanced well, and feels like professional / semi-professional device when in the hands. I picked up a crappy little tripod and would advice anyone considering investing in one to get a half way decent one. Wonky tripods may be inexpensive ($50-60), but they certainly will not give you half way decent photos. All pictures taken in the Forth of July folder were shot with the D50.
20 juin Digital Photo TimeTime for a new digital camera. I have been using the Canon SD400 and have to admit that Canon has done very fine by me to date as far as picture, quality, and design. With Cake's return home soon (YES - NO MORE PAPERWORK - DATE IS COMING SOON *FINGERS-CROSSED-TOES-CROSSED*) I want something a bit sharper to really capture our experience over the rest of our life that will do a higher quality job. I have been looking at the following Digital SLRs (no more point and shoot super portables). With my prior SLR experience (Olympus D-720L in 1998) I believe a solid SLR will produce the best quality pictures compared to today's hot portable market. I have been looking at the following:
Canon Rebel EXT 350
Nikon D50 w/ 18-200mm VR Lens (this lens is superior in all regards to anything Canon has out)
Nikon D200 w/ stock lens
The canon has a good balance of performance and size which was originally tilting me hard. From the reviews I have read, however, the grip on the camera is rather small and although the Canon has a very, very solid processor the stock lens lacks. At $550 I would more then likely need to get a AntiShake lens to complement the camera. At 3fps continous shooting the Canon looked like a great action shooter with solid growth potential.
Overall I'm now leaning towards the D50 due to a solid refurb market (I have a feelings something is about to be released by Nikon as the D50 replacement). The 18-200mm VR lens by Nikon is quite simply one of the best lens money can buy for all around performance. From the information I have gathered thet D50 is very close in performance to the D70 - a camera that continues to outperform the Canon Rebel EXT 350 for easy of use and comfort. The VR technology within the 18-200mm lens will make using a tripod virtually unnecessary. This attracts me greatly as carrying around tripods seems to impeed on actual camera use IMHO (whether monopod or tripod - it all seems a bit over the top for a novice.)
The down side about the 18-200mm lens is price and availability. The thing is literally the hottest lens out right now. At $750-$800 the lens will easily cost more then the camera... at $1200 I will get a professional level camera with a lot of growth for a budding novice.
PHOTO TIME!
25 mai Talking about Lay, Skilling guilty in Enron scandal - The Enron Trial - MSNBC.comFucking Jerk Offs - Off to jail with your sorry asses! Quote Lay, Skilling guilty in Enron scandal - The Enron Trial - MSNBC.com 24 avril Headed to the BFL 1/2 PointWow... when I started this thing 6 weeks I was thinking - 60 pounds in 60 days! Well that mind set has changed coming into week 6. First off - I've dropped a wopping 11 pounds! Hahaha... not exactly 30 pounds I had envisioned when I first started doing this thing. As my expectations have become more adjusted I am beginning to feel that I am a lot stronger now then I was when I started. Physically there are some obvious changes, however, they are more sculpture based changes. my love handles are going away, my back fat is shrinking, and my bum is quickly reducing. I haven't put any pictures up lately because I am working hard to show a big change next set. BFL is very basic from a time investment prospective - 46 minutes on the weight lifting and 20 minutes on the cardo. Those workouts, however, are by far the most dense, power packed workouts I have ever done. Most of the work is exposive and muscle rippling! No - I'm not cut like a piece of granite yet, HOWEVER, the chance are noticable and this is really the right way to progress for a Body For Life. 18 avril Cake & Noush Take on Oregon, Cali, and Half DOME!This is our Cali Trip! :) Quote My Windows Live Local Scratch Pad 8 avril BFL Week 3 - DONE!Very excited about the week 3 progress to date. Tuesday and Wednesday work outs were awesome!! I feel powerful this morning! Loving it and ready for a great day at work! Off to meet customers YEAH!! Quote BFL - WEEK 1 COMPLETE 25 mars BFL - WEEK 1 COMPLETEPretty amazing if you ask me! Sarah and I just finished our first week of BFL. We got away from the constant weighing fiasco and are just doing picture to show our progress. IT's AMAZING WHAT A WEEK OF HEALTH CAN DO! Being more energized every morning and dedicating 20 minutes of cardo or 46 minutes of weight lifting can make a big difference in a persons life! We're both feeling inspired from our first week results. Back pictures from week 1 and week 2 are in the gallery... CHECK IT OUT! It's on to BFL CHANGES!
